A development and
rehabilitation centre for Mentally Retarded and Cerebral palsy
Children

The centre for development and rehabilitation of mentally
retarded and cerebral palsy children-“MONOBIKASH SANGSTHAN” started
its function since 2nd day of February, 1994 with only 4
mentally retarded children. That tiny plant has now grown as a big
tree, gradually this institute has flourished, and now it is in its
present status.
The Mentally Retarded children have always been neglected by
the society. In most of the cases the parents have a very poor
awareness about developmental possibilities in respect o deficiencies
in their children. Monobikash Sangsthan, since its commencement, is
trying its best to change the outlook by organizing home-based
service, awareness, camps etc.
‘Monobikash Sangsthan’ is a non-political, non commercial
organization, the institute is open to all the citizens of India
without distinction of religion caste and language or any other
organization of socio-economic status. The organization is registered
under the societies’ registration Act 1860, vide registration no 2444
of 1994 dated 24th September, 1994.The activities have
already spread in Agartala and its adjacent areas.

The main objectives of the
institution:
1. To
create public awareness about mental retardation and cerebral palsy.
2.
To
highlight the need of services in every field to be made easy
accessible to every disabled person of our target group in the state
of Tripura.
3.
To
render all possible help in diverse areas to make the disabled
children self-supporting.
4.
To
render all possible help for acquiring social and economic security
for the children target group.
Services of the
institution:
1.
Special school for mentally retarded and cerebral palsy
children.
2.
Nome-based training programmes have been arranged and provided to
these children. Our teachers visited nearby 25 houses with mentally
retarded children.
3.
Our institution provides free OPD services to the mentally retarded
and cerebral palsy children, who cannot attend regular classes due to
various reasons particularly who resides at remote corners of the
state. The service include training on physical management, speech
therapy etc.
4.
Our institution also organizes C.B.R. programme outside Agartala i.e.
in Bishalgarh, Mohanpur, Ranjitnagar and other places.
5.
Our institute also arranges vocational training for such children.
‘Monobikash Sangsthan’ is rendering services year after year till now,
the present strength has increased to 60.It is to be mentioned here
that our organization has not yet been granted any financial aids from
anywhere. We also give our adult students vocational training, among
them some girls are earning with stitching, some of the boys are
earning with small business with the help of their parents. The number
of trained staff is limited, but the group is very enthusiastic. The
parents are also keen to get trained. The organization would like to
develop is to create general awareness to conduct a survey to get an
estimated number of disabled children in and around Agartala, to
spread awareness about the disability act and develop residential
services.
